Spend the first day in Delhi by visiting some of the most attractive landmarks of the city. Start the morning by visiting the Red Fort (UNESCO, closed on Monday), a monument that had been the main residence of the Mughals rulers. Then, visit the Jama Masjid which is one of the largest mosques in the country. This is so large that it can hold over 25,000 people in its courtyard. Next, visit the Humayun’s Tomb (UNESCO), a grand mausoleum belonging to the second Mughal emperor. After lunch, visit Qutb Minar (UNESCO), a brick-made minaret that appears sky-high. Last but not the least, visit the Lotus Temple (closed on Monday), Asia’s only Bahai House of Worship and a stunning example of modern Indian architecture.

On the second day, it’s time to leave Delhi’s throbbing city life and head towards the small, isolated town of Rajasthan called Mandawa in the Shekhawati region. Visit the main attractions which are beautifully painted havelis (wealthy merchant’s houses). Here are some of the havelis that are open for visiting: Jhunjhunwala Haveli, Chokhani Double Haveli, Bansidhar Newatia Haveli, Sneh Ram Ladia Haveli, Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli and Mandawa Castle. Strolling the town of Mandawa makes you think about how life used to be within the walls of these residential complexes. Well, you can experience it yourself by staying at Mandawa Castle. Don't forget to indulge in some lip-smacking Rajasthani delicacies from the eateries. Explore the small town and admire past craftsmanship while in Mandawa.

From Mandawa, head towards your first destination of the day, Nadine Le Prince Haveli in Fatehpur. A small town of Shekhawati, Fatehpur is famous for housing this haveli. It was formerly known as Nand Lal Devra Haveli and the architecture and artwork of the haveli are maintained by a French artist, Nadine Le Prince. After exploring this haveli, drive to your next destination, Jodhpur - the Blue City. Take a stroll around the second-largest city in Rajasthan which is soaked in vibrant and varying shades of blue. This is what gives it the nickname of Blue City. The old monuments of the city look stunning in contrast with the neighbouring desert. Witness the scenic beauty of the sunset in this 500-year-old Marwar city.

This morning, visit the Mehrangarh Fort. This lofty fort is settled on a rocky hill called Bhakurcheeria and was initially constructed by Rao Jodha. The thrilling history and the captivating architecture of the fort make it appealing. Next, is the Jaswant Thada. Built in the memory of Jaswant Singh II, this royal building and the cenotaph reflect the impeccable craftsmanship of white marble and red sandstones of the bygone Rajasthani architecture. Onto the next site, you arrive at Umaid Bhawan Palace. This golden-yellow sandstone palace is the world’s sixth-largest private residence. It is a blend of British, Rajasthani and Buddhist architectural elements. In the afternoon, leave Jodhpur and drive to Pushkar for the night.

After breakfast, explore the holy city of Pushkar. Find peace at some of the oldest Hindu temples like the Brahma temple or Savitri temple and the Gurudawars. Stroll along the serene Pushkar Lake surrounded by bathing ghats. Next, head towards Jaipur, the Pink City. Start Jaipur exploration by visiting the Albert Hall Museum. This is the oldest museum in Rajasthan and it also functions as the state museum. It houses amazing artefacts of different eras like the coins of ancient Gupta and Kushan dynasties and an Egyptian mummy. The Nahargarh Fort is the next and the last stop of your day. The first destination to explore today in the Pink City is the Hawa Mahal. Built in the year 1799, the Hawa Mahal is an extension of other royal palaces of Jaipur. From this place, the royal ladies used to observe life outside the palace from the 953 windows on the Hawa Mahal facade. Next, visit the City Palace and witness the aesthetics of the edifices, courtyards, temples and gardens of the palace which used to be ceremonial and administrative of Rajasthan’s kings. After that, head to your next destination, a 300-year-old astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar (UNESCO). It is home to the world’s largest stone sundial. The observatory also has 19 giant astronomical devices. The last location for the day is Amber Palace (UNESCO) - a sublime palace overlooking Maota Lake. This is a stunning example of Rajasthani architecture.

On the way to Agra, visit Chand Baori stepwell which has about 3,500 steps. The baori is 13 levels deep. The staircases look like triangles leading to the water at the bottom of the well. Next, explore the ruins of one of the oldest cities in India, Fatehpur Sikri (UNESCO). The palaces, courts, mosques, and other monuments of the city reflect the lost days of the royal Mughal era. Most of the structures in the city were made from red sandstone. Fatehpur Sikri tells the tales of the brave kings and queens from our ancestral times.

Begin your day by visiting the universally renowned site of eternal love, the Taj Mahal (UNESCO, closed on Friday). Witness one of the Seven Wonders of the World that leaves an undying footmark on the memories of the visitors. The Taj Mahal with its magnificent presence is the embodiment of architecture. Moving on to the second destination, you arrive at the Agra Fort (UNESCO). Also identified as the Lal Quila because of its red outlook, this fortress served as a royal residence for the Mughals. Your third destination popularly known as Baby Taj is the Itimad-Ud-Daulah. Isolated from the chaotic city, this graveyard is a Memoriam of Nur Jahan’s parents.

After breakfast, visit the Akbar's Tomb. The resting place of the Mughal emperor is surrounded by green forest. Situated 10 km from the city of Agra, the tomb is located in Sikandra. The forest is also home to many animals like monkeys, deer and peacocks. A small halt and visit to the mausoleum on your way to Delhi make the trip complete and memorable.
